Roger Edgar Gillet was born on July 10 1924 in Paris, France
and died on Oct 2 2004 in Saint-Suliac.
He took classes in the L 'ecole de Boulle from 1939 until 1944
and became an interior and theatre decorator at first.
Gave Lessons at the
l'Académie Jullian from 1946 untill 1948.
Gillet worked
from the early fifties in a tachistes style following Mathieu, Bryen
ou Riopelle. Later he turned to a more expressionistic way of painting.
He won the American Catherwood prise in 1955 and had his
first solo exhibition in 1953.
Mentioned in the Bénézit 1976 and the Vollmer 1953-1962. His work is
found in many museums all over the world.
